Heart nutritional supplements

Prevention (please consult your physician first before changing diet or starting an exercise program)

Prevention is the best medicine, prevention starts with life style changes, diet changes, exercise, quitting smoking and reducing alcohol intake. According to the Journal Of American Medical Association(JAMA) coronary heart disease rates drop even with light to moderate walking activity. Even a study of Harvard graduates found that exercising for only 15 minutes at a time, several times a day, can reduce your risk of heart disease. Mainstream medicine has adopted cholesterol-lowering therapies as its first line defense against heart attacks. A review of the scientific evidence, however, shows that measurements of an inflammatory marker in the blood called C-reactive protein may yield better diagnostic information than measurements of cholesterol. A chronic inflammatory state as evidenced by elevated C-reactive protein, results in significant damage to the arterial system.

Alternative therapies

Meditation and aromatherapy will help reduce stress and elevate mood. Stress can significantly affect cardiovascular status, increased stress can cause a whole host of problems. Other alternatives include the use of herbs and supplements.

Heart nutritional supplements

1) homocysteine can be controlled with low-cost dietary supplements and these are Folate,  Vitamin B-12, Vitamin B-6,  Vitamin B-2(Riboflavin),  Zinc and Magnesium.

2)  Vitamin E - protects LDL cholesterol from oxidation, it is a nutritional leader in preventing atherosclerosis thereby preventing heart disease and possibility of heart attacks.

 3) Vitamin C - may also help lower high total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, raise HDL(good cholesterol), prevent atherosclerosis and neutralize free radicals. British research on more than 11,000 people found that those who took both vitamin C and vitamin E had only about half the risk of heart disease compared to those who did not take supplements.

4) CoQ10 - is one of the most promising nutrients for the heart. It may improve heart muscle metabolism and electrical functioning of the heart by enhancing its pumping capacity.

5) TMG (Trimethylglycine) - converts homocysteine into methionine and S-adenosyl methionine (SAM-e).

6) Omega-3 - population studies have demonstrated that people who consume diets rich in omega-3 oils either from Fish oil or Flaxseed oil, have significantly reduced risk of developing heart disease. It may also prevent recurrence of heart attacks and lowers LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.

7) Magnesium - is very important for maintaining a healthy heart. It plays an extremely vital role in maintaining the electrical and physical integrity of the heart muscle, along with potassium. Potassium regulates normal heart beat and blood pressure and is necessary for the contraction and relaxation of heart muscle tissue. Another mineral that's just as important for the heart is Calcium.

Heart nutritional herb
